World Book Day at Marshlands School – Thursday 7th March
Children at Marshlands love to read! We celebrate World Book Day every year and this year our theme was Heroes!
Some children who follow our Informal Curriculum Pathway explored the story of Elmer the multi-coloured elephant through a sensory story and decorated Elmer pictures with collage materials. Others looked at the stories Superworm and Cat in the Hat. They started by exploring Julia Donaldson’s story, Superworm, together and made their own super worms from playdoh adding some Maths learning about how long and short the worms were. In the afternoon the children enjoyed making super worm bread rolls and watching Cat in the Hat. The teaching staff dressed up as the Cat in the Hat and Thing One and Thing Two!
Children who follow the Semi-Formal Curriculum focused on different books including Super Doper Me! They dressed up, listened to stories and explored books independently or with an adult. Some children made a den in the reading area to look at books. The children took part in creative activities and designed and painted a book front cover, collaged a super hero and coloured a book mark with their name on.
Classes who follow the Formal Curriculum embraced the theme of heroes for World Book Day and enjoyed showcasing their costumes, reading a fictional superhero book – Supertato and making superhero vegetable characters. The children had a superhero party wearing their superhero masks and made healthy snacks to enjoy during the party.
