Fir

Fir is a Key Stage 2 class (Year 4 & 5) who enjoy learning by following our formal curriculum.

Miss Toth teaches in this class and we have four support staff: Mrs Clifford, Miss Ellis and Ms Atkins.

In Fir class, we help to promote the children’s communication skills, life skills and social skills through a combined formal and multisensory approach. The children have the opportunity to explore turn taking games, take part in general life skills and taking part in interactive communication and language sessions.

We cover different topics each term through our work in all the subject areas and try to make this as fun as possible – expect to hear lots of laughter in Fir class!

This term, Fir are focusing on the topic ‘Transport’, this topic will be incorporated into the wider curriculum so that the children will have the opportunity to explore new and exciting learning opportunities. The children will be invited to learn about past and present transport vehicles, how different transport work and how you can travel using different types of transport. In English, the children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of books linked to transport such as ‘Diggersaurs’, ‘You Can’t take an Elephant on the Bus’, ‘There’s a Tiger on the Train’ and ‘The Boy who Sailed the World’.

The children will also be getting creative as they explore the topic of transport, through a multisensory approach. They will be exploring role play activates, art linked to transport and creating junk modelling structure of transport vehicles. Alongside the creative part of the curriculum, they will also be learning more formal aspects such as developing reading, writing and maths skills. All activities are differentiated to suit each child’s level of development and needs.

Alongside the curriculum above we will also taking part in sessions based on: speech, life skills, social interaction and have the opportunity to visit our sensory room where the children have access to a calming Cubbie experience.
