Makaton is a form of signing that aids the use of verbal language to give pupils the ability to understand what is being said to them but also communicate their needs. We have a whole school approach to using Makaton at Marshlands and this approach is used with all pupils across all our pathways. We feel that even if the pupils do not use Makaton, it is good to teach them so that they can communicate with their peers who do use Makaton. This is why we encourage Makaton, signing at key points of the day, such as when making the timetable.
