Speech and Language Therapy

At Marshlands we have a highly successful Speech and Language model which includes the specialism of NHS therapists, school commissioned Speech Therapists who create and deliver Speech plans, a Speech and Language therapist assistant and our highly experienced staff team.

Speech and Language Therapists, from both the NHS and therapists employed through the school, work closely with children to ensure they reach the full potential of their communication needs. Some pupils may use an Augmentative and Alternative communication strategy such as a PECS book, containing photographs and symbols, signing or gestures, or a voice output communication aid. Many staff are trained to Makaton level 2 and we are continuing to offer this training to further develop this strategy.

By working closely with the speech and language therapist the children benefit from a curriculum that is underpinned by SaLT techniques and strategies, for example Colourful Semantics and  Zones of Regulation. These interventions are collaboratively deployed by S&L therapists to teachers and these are shared with all members of staff involved in a pupils education to provide a joined up consistent approach that enables the children to achieve their full potential.

Through carefully personalised teaching plans and a priority placed on speech and language, Marshlands provides an exciting, multisensory, language rich environment where children can experience the curriculum through a wide range of activities.  We develop confident and happy children and equip them with the skills to develop healthy relationships and independence.
