Fireflies is a small intervention class with a focus on communication, sensory needs and supporting children’s social, emotional and mental health (SEMH). Fireflies can cater for up to four children, allowing for highly personalised support tailored to each child’s individual needs.
The small class size enables us to build strong relationships with each child and provide a calm, nurturing environment where they feel safe, understood and valued. We support children to develop their confidence, emotional regulation and independence at their own pace, celebrating every achievement along the way.
A total communication approach is taken to support all learners in building their ability to communicate in the way that works best for them. This may include the use of PECS, communication boards, AAC devices, strategies recommended by Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT), Makaton and our Core Word of the Week. By using a range of communication methods, we ensure that every child has a voice and is supported to communicate their wants, needs, thoughts and feelings.
Children in Fireflies have access to a range of sensory experiences throughout the day to support their regulation, engagement and wellbeing. We understand the importance of meeting sensory needs and creating opportunities for children to learn and thrive in ways that work best for them.
A key part of Fireflies is access to outdoor education. Children benefit from spending time outside, where they can build confidence, develop social skills and enjoy practical, hands-on learning experiences. Outdoor learning provides opportunities to explore, problem-solve, connect with nature and support their overall wellbeing.
In Fireflies, we strive to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, understood and encouraged to reach their full potential.
