Pine

Pine is an Upper Key Stage 2 class (Year 4 to Year 6) who enjoy learning by following our bespoke semi-formal curriculum.

Mr Lovatt teaches in this class and we have four support staff:  Miss Crewe, Mr Wort and Mrs Wilson who assist with learning and classroom management.

In Pine class, we help to promote and nurture the children’s independence through a total communication approach. In Pine, we strive to nurture each child’s independent skills, providing them with opportunities and experiences to develop their life skills and allow pupils to foster social connections.

Learning is pitched at different curriculum levels, lessons support and challenge all children within the class to achieve their full potential, balancing academic learning with emotional regulation.  Alongside academic learning, Pine Class aim to provide a safe and stimulating environment where children learn through a multisensory approach and enjoy taking part in a variety of interactive and engaging activities. All activities are differentiated to suit each child’s level of development and needs. Outside of classroom-based learning, Pine also takes part in sessions based on: speech, life skills, social interaction, intensive interaction, sensory room time and regulation time in the Cubbie.

During the Autumn term our first learning topic is ‘Dinosaurs’ where pupils will be exploring the fossilisation process, key historical figures such as Mary Anning and books such as ‘Harry’s bucketful of Dinosaurs’. After half term pupils will be learning around the topic of ‘Chocolate’ reading Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, exploring how Chocolate travels to the United Kingdom and exploring reversible and irreversible changes.
