Herons

We cover different topics each term, we explore these topics in an enjoyable way. During the autumn term, we have been exploring ‘All About Me’ and ‘Make Believe’. The children have been learning about their family and themselves. In RE the children have developed their understanding of different traditions around the world such as Diwali and Harvest. In the spring term, Herons have been exploring ‘Space’. The children have created their own rockets and even role played a trip to space. We have enjoyed learning all about light and dark in space, creating our own dark dens and exploring torches.

The children are looking forward to taking part in their first multicultural day in February for Chinese New Year. This will take place on Monday 23rd February. They will be experiencing what it is like to celebrate Chinese New Year through crafts, role play and sensology.

Herons class enjoy learning through a multisensory approach and take part in lots of sensory activities.

We promote the children’s communication through a total communication approach, including PECS, Makaton and symbols. Throughout the week and during weekly Life Skills sessions the children are developing their independence skills.
