Computing

Leaning all about how to use technology and stay safe online is so important for pupils. We follow a scheme designed by experts for pupils with Special Educational Needs to allow them to develop these skills that help them to safely enjoy their time with devices as well as teach skills that will allow them to interact and live in our ever changing world.

Pupils learn key skills in

  • Using computers and devices so that pupils are able to operate devices and consider how we use technology in the community.
  • How to use, create and view different types of multimedia such as ebooks, digital photographs, music, art, etc.
  • How to follow and create simple programmes and how to trouble shoot these if they are not quite working as we expect them to.
  • How to use data to count and sort information.
  • Online safety and online behaviours.

All of these aspects are linked into learning in other curriculum areas so that we are creating posters about our geography work using laptops, counting using identified apps on the iPads, programme simple apps to help us to communicate and use simple toys such as Beebots or remote control cars, and use programmes such as Scratch to animate how fossils are formed.

We use visits to the community to look for technology and find out how to use it. This can include the self checkouts in supermarkets or the buttons to press on pedestrian crossings so that we can learn how to safely cross the road.
