Our KS2 classes build on the strong foundations developed in Key Stage 1, supporting pupils to become increasingly independent, confident and prepared for the next stage of their education. We provide ambitious, personalised learning that enables every pupil to achieve their potential while developing the knowledge, skills and resilience needed for life beyond primary school.
Pupils access a range of curriculum pathways, including informal, semi-formal and formal learning, depending on their individual needs. Those following a formal curriculum access an adapted National Curriculum, with learning carefully personalised to meet individual needs while maintaining high expectations and supporting meaningful progress across a broad range of subjects.
Alongside academic achievement, we place a strong emphasis on developing communication, independence, emotional regulation and essential life skills. Pupils are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for themselves through opportunities to solve problems, make choices, develop self-help skills, prepare simple meals, manage money, travel safely within the community and work collaboratively with others.
A Total Communication approach is embedded throughout our KS2 classes, ensuring every pupil has the tools and strategies they need to communicate effectively. Learning is further enhanced through specialist approaches and therapeutic interventions, including Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, sensory regulation activities and communication-focused support, tailored to individual needs.
Our curriculum extends beyond the classroom, with meaningful opportunities to apply learning in real-life situations and prepare for successful transitions into secondary education and, ultimately, adulthood. Pupils also benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including educational visits, community experiences, outdoor learning, themed events, creative arts, sport and sensory experiences, helping to broaden their horizons, develop new interests and build confidence in a variety of environments.
We are committed to celebrating every pupil’s strengths and equipping them with the confidence, resilience, independence and life skills they need for the future.
