Grasshoppers

Grasshoppers is a Year 1 and 2 class in Key Stage 1.

Grasshoppers class have had a fantastic start to the term as we explore our exciting new topic, Space. We are really enjoying learning about our Solar system, discovering facts about the planets and learning what is beyond Earth. In English, we designed and decorated our own planets and used symbols and adjectives to describe them. As part of our work we have been learning about our author of the term Jill Murphy and participated in a sensory story based on ‘Whatever Next!’ We climbed onto our box rocket, put on space boots and helmets and flew to the moon. We have enjoyed making our own rockets using different materials.

In Science we are learning about light and have taken part in a light Sensology session, which the pupils really enjoyed. We have been exploring sources of light and have visited the sensory room to support our learning.

In maths, we are continuing to develop our skills in number recognition, addition and subtraction and understanding more or less. This week, we are learning about money and set up our own ice cream shop, where we enjoyed role-playing and counting out money to buy an ice cream.

In PSHE, we have been learning about Internet safety and are focusing on identifying and recognising our feelings. We created our own portraits to explore how we are all unique. We are very much looking forward to celebrating Chinese New Year with a special celebration day full of fun activities.
