Caterpillars is a class providing a high staff to pupil ratio for pupils who need extra support for their learning, physical and care needs. The children experience a range of activities with a focus on using any of their five senses to learn about and make sense of the world around them. In addition, the children experience lots of sessions led by the class lead to help them to attend to an activity. We follow a routine that helps us to become more aware of the day to provide stability and predictability. We regularly check in with our feelings charts and use a range of communication aids to support us to interact with others, encouraging children to make choices and problem solve for themselves. We practice life skills to help us become more independent as we grow. All of this , plus we have lots and lots of fun and enjoy joining in with a number of activities provided by visitors to our school ; clowns, animals and people who help us in the community.
