Outreach

What is Outreach?

Working in partnership with schools and other educational settings, specialist Outreach teachers support settings to provide appropriate education for children with special educational needs (SEN).

All teachers are responsible and accountable for the progress and development of the pupils in their class. The specialist teachers at Marshlands are experienced in providing advice and support to teachers at every stage of the SEN process. Our involvement promotes high standards and the fulfilment of potential.

The first step in responding to pupils who have or may have SEN is to provide a differentiated curriculum. We support teachers by working in the classroom to observe pupils, enabling us to suggest strategies or adjustments that may be sufficient to meet a child’s needs.

We provide consultation to support the teacher and SENCO to consider all the information gathered from within the school about a pupil’s progress, alongside national data and age-related expectations.

We encourage schools to involve parents/carers in all stages of the support process and meet with them to discuss how they can work with school to support their child. We may also contribute to meetings involving parents/carers and a range of professionals.

We work with pupils in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, helping to ensure that information is transferred, and support is continuous.
If a pupil needs a greater level of support, we can assist in the process of applying for an Education, Health and Care Plan and signpost to appropriate contacts.

We write reports highlighting strengths and areas for development; where appropriate we can suggest targets and strategies for school staff. To enable the delivery of quality interventions and support we are able to deliver training and advice for staff as well as direct wok with individual pupils. This can be on any level from whole school to 1:1.

SEND Events

Over the course of the past year, we have been expanding our offerings of SEND events. These events have been organised for specific schools that requested them, in addition to being advertised through inclusion hubs to local mainstream school SENDCOs and other relevant staff members. To date, we have successfully held three events, all of which have been very well received. If you are interesting in attending a future event or having an event hosted for your school staff then please email: reception@marshlands.staffs.sch.uk
